Beazley Strengthens Lawyers' Professional Liability Team

Chicago, 4 February 2008

Beazley (BEZ.L), a leading insurer of lawyers’ professional liability (LPL), has further strengthened its US claims service with the recruitment of Brant Weidner, a highly experienced claims manager with extensive experience in the often complex issues confronting law firms.

Prior to joining Beazley, Brant spent four years as a senior claims counsel at Attorneys’ Liability Assurance Society, Inc. (ALAS) in Chicago.  At ALAS, by working closely with the member firms and defense counsel, he gained significant experience in the development of strategies for the resolution of complex legal malpractice claims.  He also worked closely with member firms to assist them in their identification of claims avoidance procedures.

Brant spent the first 16 years of his professional career at the Chicago law firm of Winston & Strawn and was a partner in that firm’s commercial litigation department for his last seven years there.

Freddie Marsh, head of LPL claims at Beazley in London, said:

“We see claims service as a major differentiator for Beazley and recruiting the best claims professionals to support our growing US business has been a strategic priority.  Brant certainly meets our demanding criteria.”

Lloyd Fielder, head of the global LPL team, added:

“Key to the success of our business is the tight integration of our team of claims experts and underwriters.  Brant’s experience will be valuable, not only in helping to resolve our clients’ claims, but also in the further development of our risk management offering.  We know from our clients that they value prevention even more than cure.”

Based in Chicago, Brant joins Beazley’s growing global LPL team, which now numbers 14 underwriters and claims professionals operating out of London, Chicago and New York.  Beazley is a leading insurer of the largest US law firms, providing coverage for more than a third of the AmLaw 200 firms, as well as hundreds of smaller firms.
