After a hospital break-in, the stolen computers were less of a problem than the unencrypted data they contained. It belonged to patients of hospitals that were clients of a business processing outsourcer (BPO) we insure. The BPO was obliged by contract to defend and indemnify their clients.
Yikes! They needed a hero. So we stepped up to co-ordinate their notifications and manage the defence of the inevitable class action litigation against the BPO and medical institutions. The costs and legal fees came to $4 million. All covered by the policy, all paid by Beazley.
