Derek joined Beazley in 2019 as part of the Global Miscellaneous Medical and Life Sciences team. Based in Vancouver, BC, Canada, he is responsible for underwriting middle market and large risk accounts with a global focus. Derek has prior experience as both a broker and an underwriter, working with clients across a number of industries in risk identification, exposure analysis, risk transfer program structuring and placement of global programs. Telehealth and digital healthcare has existed in Canada for some time, starting out life as simple phone consultations, but in recent years, the Canadian and global telehealth space has grown significantly, with countless new entrants into the market. These businesses can vary enormously in both size and requirements.
Beazley launched its suite of Miscellaneous Medical and Life Sciences (MMLS) offerings to the Canadian Market in March 2020, building on two decades of experience writing this business in the US and London.
Wearable technology and the apps that support it are an increasingly important part of the healthcare ecosystem, extending beyond the wellness and lifestyle sphere in which they largely began, to support the monitoring, diagnosis and management of a variety of health issues, particularly chronic conditions such as diabetes, asthma and arthritis.
