Christina joined Beazley in June of 2009. She is an Underwriter for public company and private company directors and officers liability, employment practices liability, fiduciary liability and oversees the South region in respect to these products. Christina is also US Product Lead for Safeguard, Beazley's sexual misconduct offering. She started in Beazley's New York office and moved to London in 2011 as an Underwriter at Lloyds. She moved back to Atlanta in 2015 as part of Beazley's regional growth strategy. Christina graduated from Vanderbilt University with a degree in Business and Financial Economics.
Last year we experienced increased growth in demand for Safeguard - our service-led insurance offering for Sexual Molestation Liability (SML) risks. In this update, we review the factors driving this growth along with the external trends we saw last year. We also highlight the rising trends and issues we anticipate will grow in importance this year.
April is National Child Abuse Prevention month in the US, an observance that was first declared in 1979 by former president Jimmy Carter. A staggering one in four people experience abuse during childhood in the US [1], with that abuse falling into one of four categories: physical, sexual, emotional, and neglect. Around one in seven US children has experienced child abuse or neglect in the past year [2].
Due to the anonymized nature of the Internet, any new activity online presents a risk to children. From discussion boards to multiplayer games to social media sites, there are many ways that the Internet can bring children into contact with individuals who may or may not be known to them and who are looking for a way to keep their communications undetected.
